Initially named “Allred Settlement” after its 1852 founders led by James Allred, the town was first organized as an LDS ward in 1853 with Ruben W. Allred as the bishop.  The town named as Spring City when Christen G. Larsen became the bishop of the new LDS ward in 1860.

The entire city is recognized as the Spring City Historic District, aligning with the city boundaries. This designation is a testament to its preservation as a Mormon settlement, encompassing both residential areas and the commercial center.
